ILM Highland, in partnership with Unforgotten Forces, has launched a new Handyperson Service specifically aimed at aged armed forces veterans living in Highland and Moray. The Highland Veterans Handyperson Service provides help with small repairs and home maintenance, including home security and safety measures. This service gives aged veterans increased peace of mind and additional comfort in their homes, enabling them to live independently for longer.

The Highland Veterans Handyperson Service, alongside our existing Handyperson Service, offers valuable support to elderly men and women who may struggle to undertake these jobs themselves. The service will also offer referrals on a range of relevant matters which will in turn further enhance and improve their lives. Unforgotten Forces is a collaboration between 15 of the leading organisations supporting older veterans, and their families, in Scotland. Over the next three years the Unforgotten Forces consortium will deliver a range of new services and enhancements in areas including advice, access to healthcare, social isolation, respite and creative activities and events for those in care settings.

The consortium has been awarded £4 million of funding from the Aged Veterans Fund, an HM Treasury grand-giving body which distributes funding from LIBOR banking fines. The money will be used over the next three years to improve the coordination of existing provision and introduce new services aimed at supporting aged veterans.

Through the Unforgotten Forces partnership, ILM Highland will also provide referrals to services that assist with a range of matters including larger independent living adaptations and repairs; sight and/ or hearing support; emotional support; general advice and practical support; tackling isolation and loneliness; as well as financial support.
