If it has a plug, cable or battery, we can recycle it. Protect the environment. Support local communities. Give electrical items a second life.
Our Highland region is growing. With that growth comes an increase in waste.
Electrical waste is one of the fastest growing waste streams worldwide. By recycling responsibly, we protect the place we call home and create a cleaner, stronger future for the next generation.
At ILM Highland, we see value where others see waste. By recovering, repairing and reusing electrical items, we reduce landfill, support local communities and keep valuable resources circulating here in the Highlands.
Recycling electrical items is not just about clearing space. It is about protecting the environment, supporting communities and making better use of valuable resources.
Keeping appliances and electronics out of landfill reduces pollution and harmful waste.
Many items can be repaired, refurbished or repurposed, giving them a second life and ensuring local families have access to affordable essential appliances.
When you recycle with us, you help fund vital services for older adults and people with disabilities across the Highlands.
Items that might otherwise be discarded can become affordable appliances, training opportunities and community initiatives. Your recycling directly supports our social mission.
Whether it’s a broken kettle or an old fridge that’s seen better days, there’s a way to recycle it with ILM Highland — wherever you are across the Highlands. From publicly accessible pink bins and regular mobile collection days, to re-use containers at council recycling centres and our HomeClear at-home collection service, we’ve built a network designed to make responsible recycling easy.
Electrical waste is the fastest growing waste stream globally, and the Highlands generate more per person than anywhere else in Europe. Choose the option that suits you below — and help us keep valuable materials in circulation, reduce what goes to landfill, and support the local jobs and training at the heart of ILM.
When the nearest recycling centre is half an hour away, getting rid of an old appliance can feel like more trouble than it’s worth. Our mobile electrical recycling service brings the collection point to you — rotating through rural and coastal communities across Ross-shire, Sutherland, Lochaber and beyond, in partnership with Highland Council and funded by the Scottish Government’s Recycling Improvement Fund.
Look out for our pink van. Bring anything with a plug, cable or battery — working or broken, from kettles to washing machines. Whatever can be repaired or reused gets a second life through our Rescued & Ready range, and the rest is responsibly recycled to recover valuable materials.
At recycling centres in Nairn, Inverness, Wick and Thurso, you will find dedicated re-use containers.
These are for working electrical appliances that are undamaged and safe for storage. Instead of being recycled, these items are set aside for reuse through our RESCUED & READY initiative.
This gives appliances a second life, helps others access:
Every Saturday, we share available items on our Facebook page. All items are offered on a first come, first served basis.
Each appliance is fully tested and ready to use, so you can shop with confidence.
When you recycle with ILM Highland:
Nothing is wasted unnecessarily. Everything is handled with care.
All electrical and electronic devices, whether working or broken, can be reused or recycled.
ILM Highland provides electrical recycling services across the Highlands, helping households dispose of unwanted electrical waste responsibly while protecting the environment and supporting our local community.
We are committed to helping communities recycle responsibly, wherever you live or work in the Highlands.
The more we recycle and reuse, the more families gain access to essential appliances and the more we can invest in our home improvement services.
This is a circular solution, right here in the Highlands.
