The Board of Trustees at ILM Highland provides strategic leadership and governance to ensure the organisation fulfills its missions to deliver sustainable, community driven services that support People, Place and Planet. Our aim is to grow responsibly, strengthen resilience and maintain a safe, supportive environment for staff, volunteers, and customers.

Inglis Lyon

Board Member

Inglis has considerable business experience in both the private and public sector having held senior positions with Stagecoach in this country and abroad and most recently as Managing Director for Highlands and Islands Airports.
Inglis runs his own consultancy supporting teams from small and medium enterprises through periods of change, supports Children’s Hearing Scotland as a panel member and sits as a Board member for Cairngorm Mountain Scotland Limited.

Don Fraser

Board Member

After a 40-year career as a chartered civil engineer, Don joined the ILM Highland board with a particular interest in health and safety at work. In his former role, he specialised in big bridge construction in Scotland and overseas and is proud to have held senior managerial positions overseeing the construction of some of the world’s largest bridges, including the Queensferry Crossing.

Sarah Downes

Board Member

Sarah brings over 30 years experience in environmental protection and circular economy. Her experience encompasses regulation and compliance, waste policy, recycling market development, sustainable consumption and production, and producer responsibility. For over a decade, she has focused on projects related to developing circular solutions for EEE and WEEE. She is committed to supporting ILM Highland in growing their WEEE reuse and recycling activities.

Colin Clark

Board Member

Colin joined the ILM Highland board after retiring as head of environmental and amenity services with Highland Council. He has over 40 years of experience in waste management and public health, having previously been an academic at the University of Strathclyde. His initial focus with ILM was to help nurture the company’s successful venture into resource management and the circular economy.

Donald Martin

Board Member

Donald has enjoyed a wide career spanning various disciplines before moving into management and strategic development. Donald then ran his own consultancy business for 20+ years and has led a number of strategic change initiatives, transformation and outsourcing programmes. More recently he worked innovation programmes within the pharmaceutical, manufacturing and insurance sectors in the US, Europe and Asia. He still works with PBSUK (a consultancy that operates in the complex support needs area) and has been involved with ILM since 2017.

Okain McLennan

Board Member

Okain is an experienced anti-fraud, training and senior manager with considerable experience in policy construction, development and implementation. He brings with him a wide field of knowledge in fraud investigation, corporate and public governance – and is experienced in briefing senior government, international and commercial organisations.

David Walker

Board Member

David has considerable experience within large financial services organisations both in the UK and Europe.

A career spanning over 35 years which has included senior roles within Real Estate, Facilities Management, Health & Safety and Sustainability.
Throughout his career, David has promoted the development of sustainable policies, practises, and reporting.

More recently David was successful in delivering a global carbon management and reporting programme prior to retirement.

Rene Wright

Board Member

Rene has spent 25 years in buying and marketing.
In long tenures leading Business Units at blue chip retailers such as Tesco, Currys and Carphone Warehouse, she gained a wealth of experience in omni-channel retail and successfully steered multimillion pound P&Ls.
More recently Rene was CEO of a health & beauty manufacturer in Norfolk which serviced some of the biggest private label owners in the U.K.
Rene has a special interest in supporting the growth of the ILM retail trading arm.

Our trustees bring a wealth of experience from diverse sectors, including business, waste management, public health, Health & Safety, IT management, strategic development, policy construction and implementation, environmental protection, and the circular economy.

They are responsible for setting the organisation’s strategic direction, ensuring financial sustainability, overseeing compliance and risk management, and supporting the senior management team. Through expert electrical recycling and bold partnerships, ILM Highland turns profit into lasting good, building a circular economy that delivers real impact for people, planet, and place.

Through their guidance and expertise, the trustees help ILM Highland deliver high-quality, practical services to the people and communities we serve. The Board meets regularly to review progress, make key decisions, and ensure the charity operates effectively and responsibly, always keeping the needs of our clients and the wider community at the heart of our work.
