In partnership with Highland Council & NHS Highland Care and Repair service – Highland Council, our Care & Repair Service supports individuals, including children, living with conditions such as cancer, stroke, Parkinson’s, autism and others that affect daily living. We provide essential home adaptations to improve safety and independence, covering Ross-shire and Sutherland.
At ILM Highland, we assess each client’s needs to ensure they receive the right adaptations to live independently and safely at home. Depending on individual circumstances, clients may receive more than one adaptation. We work closely with NHS Highland to guarantee the best outcomes.
In partnership with our trusted trades, we offer essential bathroom upgrades, including:
Sometimes, unforeseen issues like damaged flooring can arise once work begins. When that happens, we collaborate with clients to find solutions and, where needed, apply for grants & support. We also manage a Hardship Fund to help clients who are unable to cover the required contributions, ensuring essential projects move forward.
The Care & Repair Service is available to individuals with disabilities or health conditions who live in Ross-Shire and Sutherland. This includes people with conditions such as cancer, stroke, Parkinson’s, dementia, autism, and more. Referrals can be made through NHS Highland or Highland Council.
We offer a variety of home adaptations, including accessible bathroom upgrades, stairlifts, access ramps, and more. All adaptations are tailored to meet the client’s specific needs as determined by occupational therapists.
To apply, a referral can be made through NHS Highland or Highland Council. Alternatively, individuals can contact us directly for assistance with the application process.
While we provide many services free of charge, there may be costs associated with some adaptations, depending on the client’s circumstances. We also manage a Hardship Fund through grant application to support clients who cannot afford additional contributions.
Here is how the process typically works:
Referral received from NHS Highland or Highland Council.
Client requirements reviewed based on the referral.
A feasibility report is prepared (either by ILM Highland or partner services).
An ILM Highland project officer visits the property to take photos, measurements, discuss needs, and explain what we can and cannot provide.
If the client wishes to proceed, clinet sign a Minute of Agreement.
ILM Highland produces CAD drawings, shared with the occupational therapist for approval.
Once approved, ILM Highland creates a schedule of works
The project is put to tender through our network of trusted contractors.
Clients may select two preferred contractors to tender, with our guidance.
Contractors must respond within two weeks.
A grant application is completed and submitted.
Highland Council issues a grant offer.
We update clients throughout and confirm details before work begins.
If a client contribution is required, this is usually 20%, unless other funding can be sourced.
Clients choose their preferred contractor and may pay the difference if opting for a higher quote.
Start dates are scheduled, typically with a 3–6 month lead time.
ILM Highland carries out spot checks to monitor progress and quality.
We receive the contractor’s invoice, arrange final inspection, and report to Highland Council.
Highland Council releases payment, and ILM Highland pays the contractor.
We collect client feedback.
A 12-month guarantee is provided through the contractor.

Just picked up a fridge today. Brilliant service and such friendly staff. They also went above and beyond to find my boy a replacement cable for his Xbox. Thanks so much.Posted on Google J STrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had to buy a new cooker. They had a lovely range, well-priced, and the engineer who delivered and installed it could not have been more helpful. As a disabled person, this is so appreciated. A truly wonderful team altogether. Nothing is too much trouble.Posted on Google Ian WilliamsonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
