Pink Bins
We have 21 publicly accessible pink bins publicly located across the Highlands for your convenience. Available any day and any time, these are a handy and effective way to recycle your smaller household electricals. Find your nearest bin by searching below.
Recycling Centres
We also clear 21 x recycling centres throughout Highland, working in partnership with Highland Council. Please see individual sites for location/opening hours on Highland Council website.
Re-Use Containers
In Nairn, Inverness, Wick, and Thurso recycling centres, we have re-use containers available for the public to use.
These are designed for working electrical appliances that are undamaged and can be safely stored. Instead of being recycled, these items are set aside for re-use — giving them a second life through ILM Highland’s sales, helping others access affordable appliances, and reducing waste even further.

We offer a collection service for household appliances, with a fee based on your location. If your area isn’t listed please ask for cost, as we don’t list everywhere but cover all the in between areas.

What is ILM Highland?
ILM Highland is an independent social enterprise and registered charity based in the Scottish Highlands. We support vulnerable people in their homes while reducing waste and protecting the environment through electrical recycling, home safety & independence services, and retail of refurbished appliances.
What does ILM Highland do?
We deliver a range of services including:
• Home Safety & Independence services – practical support to help vulnerable people maintain independence at home.
• Electrical Recycling & Reuse – responsibly recycling electrical waste to reduce landfill.
• Reuse Workshop – selling new & refurbished electrical goods at affordable prices. We also have a retail concession at NSH in Inverness
• Refurbishment & Repairs – services for many household appliances.
Where are you located?
Our head office, workshop and retail shop is at Unit 1G, Teaninich Industrial Estate, Alness, Ross-shire, IV17 0XS, Scotland.
What can I recycle with you?
We accept electrical items with a power plug, battery, or cable for responsible recycling. This includes large appliances like fridges, washers and dryers, as well as small electricals. These items are reused or responsibly processed to reduce landfill and recover valuable materials.
Do you collect electrical waste from businesses?
Yes — we offer business electrical waste recycling services, including collection and drop-off options to help organisations meet legal environmental standards. Documentation and compliance support are provided as part of the service.
We are a community group and have an appliance for collection, can ILM Highland collect it for free?
Commercial appliances are always charged at commercial rates. Even if the item comes from a community group, if it’s a commercial appliance, it’s chargeable.
- Alternative option – the community group can bring the commercial appliance to ILM Highland directly. In that case, they’d pay the gate fee and the special waste note fees.
- Domestic appliances – ILM can collect the appliance through our HomeClear service or the group can take it to a Highland Council recycling centre, a community collection point or directly to ILM Highland in Alness.

Can we drop off items at your industrial unit in Alness on a Saturday?
If the items are domestic request, then yes, you can pop in. If it’s commercial, it would need to be booked in advance.
