ILM Highland is delivering a household electrical recycling collection service across the Highlands in partnership with Highland Council and funded by the Scottish Government Recycling Improvement Fund.
What Electrical Items Can Be Recycled?
All electrical and electronic devices, whether working or broken, can be reused or recycled.
ILM Highland provides electrical recycling services across the Highlands, helping households dispose of unwanted electrical waste responsibly while protecting the environment and supporting our local community.

Supporting Rural Communities
This service has been designed to improve access to electrical recycling in rural and coastal areas where transport to recycling centres can be challenging.
By bringing collection points directly into communities, we make responsible recycling more accessible across Ross-Shire, Sutherland, Lochaber and surrounding areas.

What is ILM Highland?
ILM Highland is an independent social enterprise and registered charity based in the Scottish Highlands. We support vulnerable people in their homes while reducing waste and protecting the environment through electrical recycling, home safety & independence services, and retail of refurbished appliances.
What does ILM Highland do?
We deliver a range of services including:
• Home Safety & Independence services – practical support to help vulnerable people maintain independence at home.
• Electrical Recycling & Reuse – responsibly recycling electrical waste to reduce landfill.
• Reuse Workshop – selling new & refurbished electrical goods at affordable prices. We also have a retail concession at NSH in Inverness
• Refurbishment & Repairs – services for many household appliances.
Where are you located?
Our head office, workshop and retail shop is at Unit 1G, Teaninich Industrial Estate, Alness, Ross-shire, IV17 0XS, Scotland.
What can I recycle with you?
We accept electrical items with a power plug, battery, or cable for responsible recycling. This includes large appliances like fridges, washers and dryers, as well as small electricals. These items are reused or responsibly processed to reduce landfill and recover valuable materials.
Do you collect electrical waste from businesses?
Yes — we offer business electrical waste recycling services, including collection and drop-off options to help organisations meet legal environmental standards. Documentation and compliance support are provided as part of the service.
Can I help at the collection point?
We’d love local volunteers to support John (our ILM driver) at each location. It’s a great way to help out and make the day more fun! Contact [email protected] for more details.
What type of electrical appliances can I take to the collection point?
If it has a plug, cable or battery we can collect. This includes large domestic appliances, such as washing machines, not just small items, as long as they are for household use.
When coming to my rural community can you take a new or refurbished appliance with you?
Yes, if you purchase a new or refurbished appliance we can meet you at the collection point, and even better there is no delivery charge!
Can I take commercial electrical waste to a collection point?
All commercial electrical waste needs to be booked in and a collection date scheduled with our team or drop off to our facility in Alness.
