What a year we’ve had! Despite some of the most unusual trading conditions we have faced in almost 30 years, we’ve managed to recycle an incredible 55,915 large and small electrical appliances.
That’s the equivalent of filling a 3.5 tonne van 1,846 times over… which really puts it into perspective! And this means we’ve saved an incredible 2,276.5 tonnes of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere – helping to protect our planet for generations to come.
A huge part of this has been our work with Material Focus on the national Recycle Your Electricals campaign, which we joined a year ago to provide easier access to small electrical recycling across the Highlands. The campaign is calling on households to stop throwing away or hoarding their unwanted small electricals and start reusing and recycling them instead.
You might have seen our pink recycling containers in carparks and recycling centres across the Highlands – or perhaps you popped in past our recycling facility in Alness to drop off your toasters, hairdryers, laptops… or something else entirely. Everything with a plug, battery or cable can be reused or recycled.
Where possible, electricals are refurbished and found a new home – otherwise, they are stripped into components that can be reused or recycled carefully.
Not only that – but any items suitable for resale have provided funds which help us provide vital homecare services to older and vulnerable Highland residents, ensuring they are able to live at home for longer.
