ILM Highland is currently recruiting volunteer drivers to assist with the collection and delivery of electrical appliances from domestic homes across the Highlands. These collections are vital for residents who don’t drive, are disabled or elderly or do not have access to a vehicle but want to recycle responsibly—protecting our planet for future generations.

Key Responsibilities

🚚 Volunteer Driver – Key Responsibilities

As a Volunteer Driver for ILM Highland, you’ll play an important role in supporting both the environment and your community. You will:

  • Collect & deliver electrical appliances (large and small) from domestic homes across the beautiful Highlands
  • Handle items safely and responsibly, following health and safety procedures and manual handling best practices
  • Provide a friendly and professional service, acting as a positive representative of ILM Highland
  • Ensure items are logged accurately, with clear communication to the depot or recycling centre
  • Support staff with loading and unloading at ILM’s recycling and retail facilities
  • Report any issues or concerns from collections (e.g. access issues, damaged items)
  • Work collaboratively with the logistics team to plan routes and schedules
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect when visiting customers’ homes
  • Comply with ILM Highland’s policies and procedures, including health and safety and safeguarding

Essential Criteria

Qualifications & Requirements

To volunteer as a driver with ILM Highland, you’ll need:

  • A full, clean UK driving licence
  • To be physically fit and able to lift and move household appliances safely
  • A reliable and punctual approach to volunteering
  • A friendly, respectful manner when interacting with members of the public
  • The ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
  • Basic knowledge of the local area (helpful, but not essential)
  • Willingness to complete relevant training and e-learning modules provided by ILM Highland
  • A commitment to ILM’s values of environmental responsibility, community support, and inclusion

Previous driving or delivery experience is useful but not required. We welcome volunteers from all walks of life—if you’re keen to make a difference, we’d love to hear from you!

We are looking to welcome our new volunteer drivers as soon as possible. Start dates are flexible and can be arranged to suit your availability.

Duration: ⏳ Duration This is an ongoing volunteer opportunity. We are flexibility to suit your schedule. We value consistency but are happy to work around other commitments you may have.
