ILM has a retail outlet from which it sells refurbished electrical appliances at its Head Office in Alness.

Our aim is to maximise numbers of units that can be refurbished for sale, or to be given to good causes. Each year we refurbish around 5,000 large domestic appliances. These units would otherwise have gone into the waste stream. In effect, this saves in excess of 350 tonnes of waste per annum going to landfill. In addition to this, we provide jobs and training opportunities for local people.

Also at our Head Office in Alness, we have:

-      bulk storage and transfer facilities

-         workshops for the repair and re-use of appliances

-         facilities for dismantling items to send elsewhere for further reprocessing

-         partnerships with specialist organisations to re-process particular items, such as those containing precious metals or hazardous waste

Where does the waste equipment come from?

We collect waste appliances from:

-         local household waste recycling centres

-         business to business waste collection services

-         local retailers

Who will benefit?

Communities – second hand appliances, electrical equipment and furniture is a valuable resource for families and individuals on low incomes.

Local Economy – through job creation and the provision of training and work experience posts.

The Environment – The reuse and recycling or electrical equipment and their component parts reduces consumerism, reduces the amount of waste going to landfill and promotes a healthier environment

Other social enterprises and charities - that help provide disadvantaged people with household furniture and electrical appliances to improve their quality of life.
